Like the weather, our reality and needs change with the seasons. Seasonal changes are therefore a good time to update and rethink our wardrobe.
Here's a simple and effective guide to cleaning your clothes and rediscovering your favorite clothes.
Step 1: Set the perfect mood
Give yourself a few hours of peace and quiet, put on your favorite playlist, and why not pour yourself a glass of wine or a good coffee? This sorting should be a pleasant and motivating moment!
Next, take all your clothes out of your closet and spread them out on your bed or sofa. This will give you an overview and allow you to better evaluate each piece. If it's too much, you can divide this project into two or four seasons.
Step 2: Classify your clothes into 5 categories
For each item of clothing, ask yourself the right questions and place it in one of the following categories:
- I love and wear this garment regularly.
- I like this garment, but I have nothing to pair it with.
- This garment is damaged, but deserves repair.
- This garment no longer fits me (too small, too big, unflattering cut).
- This garment is stained, worn or out of use.
Step 3: Organize the clothes piles
After you've sorted your clothes, here's how to proceed:
Stack 1: The essentials
Immediately put away clothes you love and wear often. Fold them or hang them neatly in your closet.
Pile 2: Clothes to match
Make a list of the missing pieces to complete these outfits. This will be your shopping guide for the season!
Stack 3: Repairs
If a garment has a small flaw or just needs to be altered to fit properly, take the time to take it to a seamstress or repair it yourself. Your leather accessories can be restored by a good shoemaker.
Stack 4: To give away or to resell
Clothes that are in good condition but that you no longer wear will surely make people happy. Consider your friends, thrift stores, swap groups, or donating to charities.
Battery 5: To be recycled
If a garment is too damaged, turn it into rags for cleaning or offer the fabric scraps to a seamstress friend or to garages. The goal is to send as few as possible to the landfill.
Step 4: Finalize your cleaning
- Dry cleaning? Take your clothes to the cleaners now to avoid waiting in line when the seasons change.
- Improved organization : Take the opportunity to reorganize your closet with matching hangers, storage boxes, or a new, more practical layout.
A clean wardrobe for a stylish season
Dedicating a few hours to this task will give you more clarity and save you time each morning when getting dressed. Plus, you'll have a better idea of what you really need to complete your wardrobe.
So, ready to make way for renewal? Happy sorting!
